Another Hexicon support slot with those lovely lovey eggs! Extra bonus fun from the good ol Moustache of Insanity. Have you got their postcards ep yet? Do it.
The music of the Lovely Eggs is mainly influenced by the ecstasy of the modern mind and all its trappings. For those people who want to find us through an internetty influence type search, we would like to shout the following bands/people from the rooftops…The Velvet Underground, Daniel Johnston, Richard Brautigan, Red Crayola, Sonic Youth, Scout Niblett, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, David Shrigley, Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, Bikini Kill, The Make-Up, Moldy Peaches, The Beach Boys, The Fall, The Beat Happening and on and on et cetera
Hexicon started as a lo-fi voice/guitar/french horn combo in 2004 and got told they sounded like a junk shop Beach Boys. They expanded when Mike, Paul and Tom were joined by Andy and Greg, the rotating drummer tag-team and Giles who was a total bass-head.
Before the rhythm section joined the other guys started making a record, playing all the parts themselves as Greg recorded and mixed. It’s coming out on March 8th on Haircut Records. Hexicon recorded more songs at Soup Studios soon after. ‘Narissa I Won’t’ and ‘Sweet Things’ were planned for release as a single, and they are waiting patiently.
Hexicon have so far played on bills with some of their favourite people including James Yuill, Fireworks Night, Esiotrot, Darren Hayman, Fanfarlo and SFA. Rob Rotifer took them out on a tour of Austria in 2006 to play some shows alongside Fuzzman and himself.
Mike and Paul also play in Allo Darlin, and Tom can also be heard playing Horn on Darren Hayman’s most recent records.
“Goofy conceptualists” – New York Times
“two overgrown schoolboys running riot with cheap keys, shouting, guitar thrashing, and a sweet song about sending postcards to strangers on the internet. Their DIY ethos captures the anarchic glee of early bis: I’d send these guys ‘round primary schools to show kids how FUN music can be.” – thefly.co.uk
The Queen’s Head started as a whim of Mr.Speaker’s, unhappy with his self-imposed ‘ideas’ of what was ‘good’. But it quickly became much more than a mere giggle on the side of his other successful sonic behemoth – SubAudible Hum (http://www,myspace.com/subaudiblehum) – and took on an earth-shattering importance second to none.
The Queen’s Head now tours the world seeking friends of whimsical electro indie everywhere. Sometimes they have drums, sometimes a laptop emitting the fattest of beats. Either way crowds are left quivering, with sore legs and arms from dancing, sore livers from drinking, and sore minds from struggling all night and day to come to terms with what they just saw.
